Straight past the steam
BEAUTURAL

One of the five shelves

Home and bath

The small shelf beside the laundry bench. Fittings for a kitchen or bathroom counter, built to the same plain standard as the irons.

Why a soap pump and a lighted mirror sit on a pressing bench

Pressing starts with clean hands and ends at a sink, so the fittings around that sink belong on the same bench as the irons. A mirror that magnifies and carries its own light answers the same kind of question a steamer does: can you see what you are working on. We hold both pieces to the standards we use for heated tools, which means metal that does not rust, a mechanism that repeats itself, and a finish that wipes clean with a cloth. It is a short shelf on purpose, and it grows only when a piece earns its place.
